Open Access Options

The University of Konstanz has made transformation agreements with several publishers, through which the costs for hybrid open access publishing will be covered, or offered for more favourable conditions. An overview of the publishers as well as the relevant conditions and steps for processing payments can be found below:

Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)

All members of the University of Konstanz are entitled to free hybrid publishing with ACM, due to a transformation contract. All fully peer-reviewed research articles newly published in ACM’s magazines, conference proceedings and journals are eligible.

During the submission process, please make sure to keep the preset option "Institutionally Paid Open Access". In addition, we recommend using the CC BY licence, which has also already been selected. Further information can be found on the FAQ page set up by ACM.

American Chemical Society (ACS)

Members of the University of Konstanz are entitled as corresponding authors to publish their articles in numerous hybrid journals of the ACS without additional costs. This applies to all articles accepted for publication in 2023, regardless of when they appear. Your email address will automatically recognise your eligibility for this. American Institute of Physics (AIP)

Hybrid publications in AIP journals are free of charge for members of the University of Konstanz via a consortium agreement - for a contingent of over 500 articles per year for the entire consortium. If you would like to know whether the costs for your article can be covered, please contact us by phone or informal e-mail. AIP's Author Guide can be found here.

Benjamins

Members of the University of Konstanz are entitled as corresponding authors to publish their articles in all journals of John Benjamins Publishing free of charge Open Access. This applies to all articles accepted for publication in 2023, regardless of when they appear. Please indicate "University of Konstanz" as affiliation during the submission process. We recommend choosing a CC-BY licence.

Cambridge University Press (CUP)

Members of the University of Konstanz are entitled as corresponding authors to publish their articles in the hybrid journals of CUP without additional costs. In addition to Research Articles, Review Articles and Rapid Communications, Brief Reports and Case Reports are also considered. We recommend choosing a CC BY license. Upon successful verification of your eligibility, you will receive confirmation from Rightslink that your publication fee will be covered. For more information, see CUP's step-by-step instructions.

De Gruyter

The University of Konstanz has concluded a transformation agreement with the publisher De Gruyter, under which publishing in some hybrid journals is included in open access. Authors from the University of Konstanz who are corresponding authors can publish in these journals in open access at no additional cost. Further information can also be found here.

Elsevier

The University of Konstanz is a participant in a transformation agreement with Elsevier via the DEAL Consortium. According to the contract, open access publishing by Konstanz submitting corresponding authors is possible in over 1,800 subscription journals from Elsevier, including the journals of the Cell Press and The Lancet brands, at no additional cost under a CC BY license (please note that the contract does not include any additional fees for typesetting costs, color or similar). The contract covers all article types with peer review (Full Length Article, Review Article, Case Report, Data in Brief, Microarticle, Original Software Publication, Protocol, Replication Study, Short Communication, Short Survey, Video Article).

Institute of Physics (IOP)

Hybrid publications are free of charge for corresponding authors of the University of Konstanz in numerous IOP journals. All articles of the type "primary research article" (incl. "research papers", "special issue articles", "letters" and "review articles") are covered.

Please indicate the University of Konstanz as affiliation in the submission. During the peer review process, you can choose an open access option at no additional cost. If you would like to know in advance whether the costs for your article can be covered, please feel free to contact us by phone or informal e-mail.

Optica

Members of the University of Konstanz are entitled as corresponding authors to publish their articles in the following hybrid journals of Optica under a CC BY licence at no extra cost: Applied Optics, Journal of the Optical Society of America A, Journal of the Optical Society of America B und Optics Letters. After successful verification of your eligibility, you will receive confirmation that your publication fee will be covered.

Sage

Members of the University of Konstanz are entitled to choose the Sage Choice programme free of charge in most journals of the Sage Premier package if they are corresponding authors. Feel free to contact us if you are planning a publication in a Sage journal. We will inform you promptly if the publication is eligible.

Springer Nature

The University of Konstanz is a participant in a transformation agreement with Springer Nature via project DEAL. According to the agreement, open access publishing by Konstanz authors (submitting or corresponding) in Springer Nature's subscription journals is possible under a CC-BY license at no additional cost (please note that the agreement does not include additional fees for typesetting costs, colour charges or similar). A list of the journals included in the contract can be found on the Springer Nature DEAL contract website.

The agreement covers the following types of article: 

  • Reseach Articles (Original papers, review papers, brief communications)
  • Non-Research Articles (Editorial notes, book reviews, letters, reports [ List of titles ])

If you would like to use the open access offer for such a publication, please select the option "Open Choice" when submitting your manuscript. We also recommend choosing the CC-BY license.

Wiley

The University of Konstanz is a participant in a transformation agreement with Wiley via project DEAL. This means that all publications by Konstanz authors (submitting or corresponding) in Wiley subscription journals can be published open access under a CC-BY license at no additional cost (please note that the contract does not include typesetting costs, surcharges for color or similar). A list of journals participating in the contract can be found on the Wiley DEAL contract website.

If you would like to publish open access in one of the Wiley subscription journals, please select the "OnlineOpen" option when submitting your manuscript. We also recommend selecting the CC-BY license. You can find step-by-step instructions on the publisher's website.
