Open Access Journal Articles

The University of Konstanz supports the funding of publication fees of open access journal articles in several ways. If you want to find out whether the costs for your publication can be covered, please check whether it is an OA journal or an OA option first:

Open Access Journals

"Genuine" open access journals are characterised by the fact that their articles are openly available from the date of publication, which means that anyone with internet access can read them free of charge. Freely available after a certain deadline does not count towards this model. You can usually find more precise information about the type of journal on the journal's website. If you are unsure or have any questions, Team Open Science will be happy to help.

Open Access Options

Open access options are found in conventional subscription journals, where authors can publish individual articles openly for an additional fee. This is often a case of "double dipping", where the publishers generate revenue twice - from journal subscriptions and from open access fees. Therefore, publication fees for articles in such hybrid journals can only be covered if the University of Konstanz has concluded an open access transformation agreement with the respective publisher. You can check whether this applies to your journal in this overview.
