Any questions on VPN connections? This page answers some of the most common ones.

The Shibboleth login window generates the error '400'

If you search for "University of Konstanz" when setting up the eduVPN client, you will receive two results: one for "Institute Access" and one for "Secure Internet" - if you have selected "Secure Internet" at this point, you will receive the error message "400" in the following Shibboleth login.

Please select "Institute Access" instead.

When trying to log on to Shibboleth, the message "The username you entered cannot be identified." appears.

You have probably used your email address ("firstname.lastname@uni-konstanz.de") – this does not work.

Please enter your university account ("firstname.lastname", without "@uni-konstanz.de").

The connection attempt with eduVPN fails, or the connection is slow and certain pages are not accessible

For further troubleshooting, it is helpful if you install the eduVPN client on another device (e.g. smartphone and/or tablet) and see whether a VPN connection works and you can reach the destinations: if so, then the problem is on your original device.

If the VPN connection does not work on the second device either, then the problem is most likely with your (network) environment, e.g. your router or provider.

eduVPN does not work in my (network) environment

Please click (before establishing the connection) on the 'cogwheel' symbol in the top right-hand corner of the eduVPN client, then tick the box "Connect using TCP only" in the following window and afterwards press the 'Done' button at the bottom right.

You can then reconnect the eduVPN client.

(This option is not available in the Linux client GUI, where a --tcp flag must be set in the command line).

If my device has been lost or stolen, how can I stop it from accessing eduVPN?

  1. Log in to the eduVPN portal with your university login (firstname.lastname without'@uni-konstanz.de')
  2. At account → authorized applications you can revoke access for the stolen/lost device.
