Access to Electronic Media

The KIM provides access to many electronic resources, such as e-books, e-journals and databases. These resources can be used anytime and anywhere. They can be accessed and read from any PC, laptop or tablet.

Access on Campus

Students and staff can access electronic resources at any time via the Eduroam Wi-Fi.

Students and researchers from other institutions can also access resources via Wi-Fi, if their home institution has also provided Eduroam access. Staff and students from the University of Konstanz can also use Eduroam Wi-Fi at other participating institutions worldwide.

Additionally you can access full texts on all public computers in the library:

Access Off-Campus

Students and staff at the University of Konstanz can also access licensed services from home via VPN or by logging in via Shibboleth. External library users can only access resources from within the library.

Access Via

VPN

VPN  provides remote access to University services, which are normally only available on-campus.

Shibboleth

Shibboleth is an authenification and authorisation system for web apps and services. You will need your University login to access media via Shibboleth. Please note, that not every publisher provides access via Shibboleth.

E-Books: Reading & Downloading

It is not always possible to download an entire e-book as a PDF. The format of an e-book is determined by the publisher and the licensing agreement. The KIM will always try to purchase e-books as PDFs, however in order to provide a comprehensive range of titles it is sometimes necessary to buy e-books with more restrictive digital rights management. This means, some e-books can only be viewed as html or downloaded as individual PDF chapters. Some e-books are also not available for purchase by libraries.

The majority of e-books can be used by multiple users at the same time. Some however have restricted access to only a few users at a time. You may receive a notice that all available licenses are in use. In this case, please try again later.

You can find out what format an e-book has, by following the link "Internetseite/Link" in the local catalogue.
