Licences for web conferencing systems

Zoom will be extended to a campus license. BigBlueButton will continue to be offered, but the license for Cisco WebEx will not be extended.

At the suggestion of the Communication, Information and Media Centre (KIM), the Rectorate has decided to adjust the university's web conferencing services for the lecture period of the summer semester 2022. This decision was taken based on usage statistics for the different platforms.

There will be a campus-wide licence for Zoom, so that all university members can use the platform. KIM is working on linking the licence to the university account, and more details will be available before the summer semester starts. The campus licence will also include licences for large events (web seminars and large meetings), that can be booked flexibly, as in the past.

KIM will also continue to offer web conferencing services on the basis of the open source product BigBlueButton, that will be managed and hosted by the university.

The campus licence for Cisco WebEx will be discontinued. However, WebEx is required for certain communication, e.g. with state ministries. If you need a licence for WebEx, please email support@uni-konstanz.de by 15 March 2022 to request a solution.
