Digital Archive of the German Sociological Association (DGS)

This collection holds the majority of files from the German Sociological Association (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Soziologie, DGS) as digital copies. Most of the physical documents are available in the Bundesarchiv Koblenz (collection B 320, German Sociological Association). A smaller part is located in the Schleswig-Holsteinische Landesbibliothek Kiel (SHLB), collection Cb 54 (Ferdinand Tönnies Papers). The digital documentation is comprised mainly of documents from the respective chairpersons, secretaries, and offices of the DGS. The archived material is from 1909 onwards.
The focus is on files (mainly correspondence and  protocols) of the DGS committees (executive board, council, sections, committees, general meetings, treasurer), membership files, documents on the “Deutsche Soziologentage” (German Sociologist Days) (1910-1992, since 1995 named “Conference of the German Sociological Association”) ) and other conferences and meetings. Some particular content includes, for example, material on various petitions and  statements, participation in international  congresses, collaboration with other organizations (including international ones), initiatives to improve the status of sociology (approx. 1909 to1939), for designing courses in social sciences (1940s/1950s), the DGS' survey about the subject of sociology at universities (1971), the DGS enquiry on the status and problems of sociological research (1974-1975) and the DGS newsletter ("Soziologie" from 1972 onwards).
