Max Ascoli (25 June 1898 - 1 January 1978)

Born in Ferarra. Studies of law in Ferarra and philosophy in Rome, where he completed his doctorate both in law and philosophy. 1926-1931 professor for philosophy of law at different Italian universities. After emigration to the United States in October 1931, he lives in New York and becomes professor for political philosophy at the New School for Social Research in 1933. Ascoli worked mainly in the fields of philosophy of law, political philosophy and dogmatic history of political theories. He died in New York in 1978. The archive contains a selection of his scholarly correspondence from the period 1934-1948, primarily with members of the Graduate Faculty of the New School for Social Research in New York. The letters are indexed and available as photocopies.
