High-Performance Computing (HPC) at the University of Konstanz

Information and Support

If you are interested or have questions about HPC resources and projects, the Constance HPC team (e-mail) will be happy to help you!

For the exchange of information about all existing and planned computing solutions (including bwHPC), the mailing list Computing-Konstanz is also used, to which all interested parties are cordially invited.

HPC on Campus

At the University of Konstanz, there are various options for scientific computing. For computationally intensive applications, such as simulations and analyses, central computers in the departments are available university-wide, in addition to smaller installations in the research groups.

The SCCKN-Cluster

The infrastructure platform SCCKN ("Scientific Computer Cluster in KoNstanz") provides local HPC resources to all working groups at the University of Konstanz.

The infrastructure platform is based on the needs and shares of the participating groups and covers as broad a spectrum of applications as possible in order to allow computations that are not covered by nationwide resources (long runtimes, GPU use, local data storage, special software, etc.).

Management and administration is carried out by the Department of Physics (e-mail).  All information on the HPC cluster SCC and the infrastructure platform SCCKN can be found on the website http://uni.kn/scc

HPC in Baden-Württemberg

In addition, researchers at the University of Konstanz have access to high-performance computing in Baden-Württemberg through the „bwHPC“ state concept.

A good source of information is the bwHPC Wiki.

bwUniCluster

As part of the Baden-Württemberg implementation concept for high-performance computing, the SCC has set up a parallel computer as a state service under the name bwUniCluster 2.0.

The bwUniCluster can be used free of charge by the staff and scientists of all universities in Baden-Württemberg and serves to provide basic computing power, regardless of the department.

bwForCluster

The bwForClusters are part of the implementation concept of the universities of the state of Baden-Württemberg for high-performance computing and are available state-wide to all scientists in a wide range of disciplines. The hardware of the bwForClusters has been optimally adapted to the procedures and requirements of individual departments. This results in a higher efficiency of the applications in defined scientific areas.
