Active Directory (AD)

The University of Konstanz operates a Windows Active Directory (AD) domain from Microsoft. The domain is primarily used for university-wide authentication and authorization. The AD domain also manages clients for staff and public computer rooms as well as some pools, clients and services in the departments.

Purpose

Active Directory user accounts are automatically created in the domain via the identity management system. Administrators can use central user accounts and groups within their own delegated organizational units as well as set up and assign rights to their own computer items, function or group items.
It is also possible to set up an LDAP connection to the Active Directory.

Access and requirements

In principle, all departmental clients with current operating systems (client/server) can be integrated into these structures. Depending on the function of the individual device, the connection can be made via delegation (domain join) or LDAP. There is generally one organizational unit (OU) per delegation within the domain.
